URI meds advice

Post by Topcat86 » Thu May 11, 2017 9:43 pm

Hi everyone,
My 2yr old rat has congestion / URI and is squeek-grunting really badly. We've been to the vets 3 times, his lungs are clear. He was initially given a anti-inflamatory injection and 1 week baytril. This cleared some sneezing but didn't touch the squeaking. On our trip to the vets last week, he was given baytril (0.18ml once a day, 10 days, 450g rat) and loxicom (0.75ml cat variety =/). We're on day 7 and there is no change to his squeak.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do next, he sounds awful?

Taking him in the shower with me also isn't working :(

Baytril is the only meds that is licensed for rats which is why most vets only issue it. I think the dose is a little low but hopefully somebody else can confirm.

My go to meds for uri is either doxycycline (ronaxan) or Veraflox.
