Help - sudden vision loss and hunched back

Post by Onthewires » Mon May 06, 2019 11:54 am

Hi all, have just noticed one of my younger girls Juno (around 4 months) is really not looking so hot. She was absolutely fine yesterday but upon getting them out this morning, one of her eyes has completed clouded over so it's almost entirely white/blue, and she's a bit less coordinated than than usual, puffing up her fur and walking with her back arched.

Aside from this she is quite mobile and alert, and is eating and drinking.

Does anyone know what this could be? Will be ringing the vet first thing tomorrow as I don't have any transport to get her to an out of hours one but until then it would be good to know if there's a cause for her symptoms and if there's anything I can do for her.

Thanks
Leah

How did she get on at the vet? It could be that she'd injured her eye, it got infected, and she was in a lot of pain, but I'm afraid there is a virus (SDAV) which can produce symptoms which include a bulging eye. I hope she's on the mend.

We've taken her to two vets and have been referred to a specialist vet who have been sent some photos, both are quite puzzled at how quickly it's developed and the lack of any other symptoms. She is no longer hunching her back and is bright and alert as normal, she seems to be quite content and the eye isn't bulging much. We were given some metacam and antibiotic drops but when tested there wasn't any damage to the surface of the eye so the drops were more to cover all of our bases. This is the eye as of yesterday.

The first vet thought looked at the eye really well and said that the discoloration is in between the surface and the pupil, he couldn't see her pupil at all under light but she didn't mind him touching it at all. All a bit of a mystery really, but touch wood she seems okay. Will put any updates and photos on here if anything changes.

How odd. Yes it will be interesting to see what happens next, thanks.
