My poor hands

Post by Sally » Fri Nov 25, 2016 2:29 pm

Hi, I have three six month old male rats. One is happy to be picked up, the other is a bit more frightened and one just keeps biting me. He doesn't lunge and bite but every time I go to stroke him he bites and now my hands are quite sore. (He has drawn blood three times) I don't know what to do. I really want to use gloves but dont know if that is the right way to go. I think he definitely associates my hands with food as I have been trying to coax his around with food. He is also difficult to get near because he will hide in the plastic hammock with the other two so I can't gently scoop him up. He definitely isn't being nasty he just seems to like biting my hands.

He's a tinker, first of all take all the hidey houses away and just leave open flat hammocks. Hopefully this will let you scoop him up easier. You can wear gloves to help you pick him up as this will also help him as the more you can pick him up the more he will get used to it.

Good luck.
