cage floor space

Post by Rattus » Tue Feb 23, 2016 10:05 pm

My original plan for a cage was to fine 2 second hand Furet Plus cages and stack them together, I got the idea from the 'mix and match towed' thread.

Initially this cage would only be housing a maximum of three rats, so plenty of room, but theoretically it could take up to 6 rats (using 2.5cubic feet per rat and 120cmx80cmx50cm as the measurements). With a base of just 50x80 is that a realistic estimate?

Thanks :D

Yup, I would say so! I used to have a furet plus tower and I kept 8 boys in it. Personally looking back it was perhaps a tad cramped but it was a very well bonded group. I would probably stick to around 6 if I was doing it again :)

Great! Makes the investment seem a little more worth while.

*Goes off to plan for all the many rats she'll have before the first have even turned up*

It'll be fine, you can maximise the available floor space by limiting floor furniture to just a toilet corner. :luck:
