baby rat carrier and cage questions

Post by Our Mrs Reynolds » Thu Jul 05, 2018 11:13 am

Hi All!

I'm looking to get my first rats (2-3 6 week old-ish bucks from a rescue centre) later this month and have a couple specific questions I can't find the answers to. Any advice is appreciated.

1. the slats on most plastic small animal carriers are making me nervous; could a rat get their feet caught in those slats? For example: http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/ ... no-carrier

2. I'm still picking out their cage, but should I get a 'quarantine' cage at the same time? Also, should this be another full size cage, or would their large carrier be sufficient? Obviously it's case specific, but would have you done?

Thanks! :dumbobaby: :dumbobaby:

Hi and welcome to the world of ratties. That carrier is popular, I haven’t heard any bad comments.

Certainly get a quarantine/hospital cage. Smaller is best with a large footprint, certainly lower as Poorly rats should be restricted or won’t feel like climbing.

Good luck
