Hi everyone!

I've been a bit quiet on here over the last year since we lost our lovely boys. Our girls are now just over a year old and are as wonderful as can be (apart from a suspected benign tumour on Buttons... sigh!)

My husband has been offered a role in Budapest for 6 months from January. We are really keen to take it, but our only consideration is the girls. Does anyone have any experience moving abroad with their rats?

We can take the train the whole way, but it does take around 18 hours without any delays etc. so I'm wondering:

1) what cage would be best to transport them for this length of time?
2) Will they be okay travelling this amount of time/ distance?
3) There are english speaking vets in Budapest, but one worry I have is their age and if anything went wrong while I was there - does anyone have experience in Budapest?!
4) Am I missing anything! What other considerations are there?

If it didn't work out transporting them across, my mum is happy to have them for the 6 months. But I would miss them dearly and would also hate for them to forget me whilst we're gone or if anything happened to them while we were away. I also don't want to be selfish and if it would be best for them to stay then we would consider it - although our preference is absolutley to take them.

Thanks all

I don't think the journey would be a problem - a cat carrier would probably be best so that there is a bit more floor space and a bottle can be attached from time to time, also you could rig up a hammock for them.

No idea about Budapest vets though.

However if you can't take them, don't worry, they won't forget you.
