I have 2 female rats and my son wants to have a party

Post by Liner72 » Tue Mar 14, 2017 3:25 pm

Hello, am a relatively new rattie mummy, I've had my girls for around 6 weeks. Nancy is the eldest at around 20 weeks and Yolandi is around 15 weeks now.

My dilemma is that my 18 year old son is having a party on Saturday night and there will be loud music involved. I am caught up between taking them to a friends house for the night, taking them to a hotel with me and my boyfriend or leaving them at home upstairs in my bedroom. If I take them to a different location it is only a very short trip.

Does anyone have any advise as to what would be best. A friend has just commented that they should be ok to be exposed to social situations i.e parties as they are part of normal life and best to introduce them whilst they are young but I am worried it will scare them. Are there any suggestions as to whether there is anything to make this a more pleasant/comfortable experience for them?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks x :birthday:

The sounds of the party shouldn't be an issue, but if you're not there, I would be worried about whether any party guests might think it fun to get them out, or feed them something unsuitable! So I would take them with you if you can. :luck:

Thanks Mary, my son is very sensible and I trust him not to get them out, he loves them as much as I do. I may put a lock on my door. I was more worried about noise. Would it be safe to put a duvet loosely over the cage to muffle it a bit?
Thanks x

Not if you want the duvet to stay in one piece! ;) A lock might be a good idea - I'm sure your son is reliable, but what about all his friends, and their friends... better to be safe than sorry I think.

Noise wouldn't bother me (you should hear the volume mine gets too!!) but I would worry about people accessing them. I have been known to put rats in my loft before if that's an option?

Great thanks for the tips. I think I may get a friend to look after them for the night.
