The Midlands Rat Club (MRC)

Post by RCTLisa » Wed Aug 24, 2011 10:20 am

The Midlands Rat Club (MRC) was set up in 2001, to promote the keeping of rats as pets and to encourage people to show their rats in a competitive but companionable atmosphere, and has grown into a vibrant and thriving community of rat lovers. We are the ideal place to find out about rats and to learn the joys of keeping these fantastic pets for yourself.

Today we have over 250 members and hold regular, well-attended shows where members meet, talk and share a common interest. The club also has a magazine, a members' shop, a rat-sitting register, a popular web forum and an outgoing enthusiasm to promote rats as the fantastic pets they are. New faces are always made to feel welcome at our shows.

We stage shows 6 times a year at venues across the Midlands, currently using venues in Birmingham, Warwickshire, Nottinghamshire & Leicestershire

There are two classes at a rat show - Varieties and Pet. The varieties section is broken down in to the various colours and markings which have a standard set by the NFRS. The pet section can be any colour and markings and is mainly judged on temperament. You don't have to be a breeder to show your rats. We also try and run Agility & a curiosity table at every show.

We like to promote rats as pets and where possible have a cuddle corner as part of the publicity stand where people can come in and meet a rat close up.
