My boys to date have been:

Past rats:

Bramley (food)
Goomba (character from Mario Bros game)
Flapjack (food)
Mallow (food / character from Mario Bros game)
Loki (Norse Mythology)
Muffin (food)
Patton (after comedian Patton Oswalt)
Boggart (mythology)
Weasel (animal)
Stilton (food)
Boo (don't know why)
Tycho (from Penny Arcade webcomic)
Mouse (animal)

and my current lot are:

Gabe (from Penny Arcade webcomic)
Radigan (after a character from Team Fortress 2 computer game)
Tavish (after a character from Team Fortress 2 computer game)
Atlas (after a character from Portal 2 computer game)
Wheatley (after a character from Portal 2 computer game)
Birdie (after polar explorer, Birdie Bowers)
Cherry (after polar explorer, Apsley Cherry-Garrard)

I really like the idea of using explorer names for rats and might do more of this in the future. My husband and I usually choose names together. We often have running themes in our names (like the gaming thing) but don't usually 100% settle on a name until we have met the rats in question.

My first three rats were called:

Boris ( named after Boris Ignatievich from the Night Watch series of books)
Scamp
Loki (my partners choosing and a little terror. Taken away far too soon.)

My soon to be babies will be named:

Bebop (from teenage mutant ninja turtles)
Rocksteady (as above)
Sumo
Clive

At least that's what we're thinking at the minute!
