SDA Virus

Post by Monkey » Thu Oct 03, 2013 9:22 pm

I had an outbreak of SDA virus in August and I know my rats will carry it without showing symptoms for four months. I have not taken in any rats, or let any rats out since they showed symptoms in August. Well, a past adopter showed up at my house the other day to return her rats that she could no longer keep. I know these rats will get the virus - but does this mean all of my other rats will show the symptoms of SDA again?

Umm...four months isn't correct, if you have quarantined for 6 weeks since the start of symptoms, then you should be fine.

Oh okay, great. I had read somewhere that they carry it for four months. Thank you.

Does that mean I can adopt them out to people with other rats as well?

Yes as long as quarantine was observed correctly.

There's really good SDA information here:

Slave to: Rescue boys Howard, Archie Broadstripe, Ray Shortstripe, Norman Wonkystripe, Albert, Bisley and Walter
Too many on the bridge to list.
