I have one of these to deal with when i get home tonight - i left it as long as i could hoping it would burst itself.
I feel ill at the thought of it.

Where are Kate and/or Stacey when you need them?

I wouldn't recommend anti-biotics for an abscess that hasn't yet popped. They will only hinder the "bursting" process. I would carry on soaking it (I too use very hot water) until the scab can be easily removed and the thing can drain.

Sorry i'm not sure how this thread got brought back up, this buck was put to sleep a few months ago after having his arm removed and not managing to adapt + his breathing was unresponsive to meds, the vet thought the cancer spread into his lungs.
Owned by rats since 2005. ;)

Reminds me of a very similar situation I had with Fargo:

Best Abcess EVER

ETA: I just read your previous post, I'm so sorry, I wouldn't have posted otherwise :(
