Can rats have ibuprofen or other pain killers?

Post by Starseed » Fri Feb 10, 2012 7:57 pm

I already have a thread going here: http://www.fancyratsforum.co.uk/viewtop ... =38&t=6639 about my Amber who appears to be in pain, hope it's okay to post again but I have a specific question about rats and medicines. Can they have human pain killers ie ibuprofen? I've read before about people using calpol, which one should I get and how much do they have? The only sign of pain at the moment is lethargicness and fluffed up fur.

Again sorry the double post, but I want to get some first thing tomorrow and don't want to give her the wrong thing. :girly:

The short answer is yes - most of it is tested on them anyway. For example, mine have the infants Calpol or Calprofen if I've run out of metacam. They can also have things like Sudafed for congestion. But as for doses, I get my info from the NFRS handbook, I'm afraid I don't know it off the top of my head. Sorry I can't be more help! Maybe someone with a handbook nearby will be along soon :luck:
