testosterone drop post-castration

Post by acapae_wolf » Sun Jun 28, 2015 10:08 am

How long have other people left before reintroducing bucks after castration? In situations which did have aggression, and where you are waiting for a hormone drop, rather than infertility. It's 4 weeks for buck mice, rats the same? Or more?

(I researched this before, but anaesthetic has killed my short term memory)

That's good. There's no way I can supervise intros now, so I don't need to feel bad for making them wait!

I can agree with this - already seeing it in Mr Blue after 2 weeks, but he still spikes every so often (he wasn't ever aggressive all the time)

I'm not exactly handling them at the minute, so can't rely on monitoring things like that.

I can actually see the difference in Mr Blue - can see he's less tense and he's floofy less often

I'm also not spending any time with them either xD Seen them for like 5mins across 5 days.
4 weeks, or top end of 2-6 weeks works well though :)

3/4 weeks, try it, if they are still aggressive try again in a couple of weeks and repeat but I'd just wait if you aren't well enough to oversee stuff :)

Intros are go! And actually yeah, even though I've not been handling them much at all recently, Whin does feel softer :D

Good! There are two piles with a boy in each right now. But for the vast majority of the time they've been next to each other. Very early on Whin let Fen trample all over him, and they've been cuddled up for much of the time since then. Aurora also pinned Whin near the beginning when everyone was bum-sniffing too too. Without any hair poofing or anything. Even without causing injury Whin would previously get pretty upset about that sort of thing.

If you could lend me the energy to go and set up the fop that'd be great :P

Aaawh bless, they look as if they've been living together for months rather than being in the middle of intros :)
