Mix and Match towers

Post by Dharma » Thu Aug 11, 2011 10:20 am

This is our DIY Furet Plus Tower!

There are more goodies to go in, but we only upgraded a newly introed group to the big cage last night so I didn't wantto whack it all in at once.

It is home to three young females.

Just behind Juno you can see the access hole to the top level, it is lined with clear flexible tubing to make it smooth and safe.

They're getting a sand digging box and another hammock, more cargo netting and toys over the next few days.
Lexi, Katniss, Prim, Luna and Lyra - my gorgeous girls.
Missing Ruby, Emmy, Cressida, Paris, Lola and Juno - my babies at the Bridge. To the world you were just a rat, but to me you were the world.

The bottom is empty at the moment but this is the top, home to four boys

This is my first attempt at a mix and match tower cage. It is a critter 2 with modified doors, with a fop buddy cage on top also has modified doors. The smaller cage at the side is also connected, this also has got modified doors.

This is our new modded cage I like to call the Fuddy - a Furet Plus on the top and a Freddy 2 on the bottom. We were thinking about getting an expensive new cage but thought as we have these two sitting around we may as well put them to use.

Just in case something happens in the future and we need two seperate cages again we didn't want to hack the whole top off the Freddy (even though it was only £10 from a boot sale) and we didn't want to touch the base of the Furet as that was bought new only a few months ago. To allow access between the two the OH cut away a few bars of the Freddy using a Dremel then filed any rough edges. A few cable ties around the edges to secure it and voila! Literally 15 minutes work and we now have a Frankencage the rats love.

We still have some extra things to put in the top half, I'm just figuring out the best set-up.

Furet plus tower, cut half the side joiners in half so they go 1/2, whole. 1/2, thus securing the two cages together, with the aid of some cable ties!

My Freddy Tower. A Freddy Max (well, Chi Chi cage lol but they're the same!) as the bottom layer with a 'normal' Freddy cage on top.
