I've been planning to move the ratties up into my daughter Ginnie's room ever since she moved into her own flat, and finally got them up there in the past few weeks. Here's a few photos. I got a couple more Explorers and put them together as triples, but with a single cage at the bottom of each one and a double height cage at the top.

The side facing the window - with the mums and babies in a Freddy tower on top of a single storey Explorer.

The window seat, made up of a metal bench that I can stand on to clean the cages. Also the dolls' house the ratties had for Christmas.

The curtains don't really match the wallpaper, but I thought they'd soon be full of holes anyway so no point getting new ones.

Two litter-/sparecages:

My rattery closets with rat pics from Portobello market. Finally I have a smart place for foods, carriers, substrades etc.

We moved house back in September and now have a rat room. It was one of the features that attracted us to the house. We are fortunate that it's built behind the garage so we don't need to really use it for storage to the rats can free range safely.

Nice view of the garden whilst free ranging

Blanket box for storage and garden bench for us to sit and them to climb. The sofa left behind lasted 5 weeks before being destroyed

Much smaller scale than some of the above rat rooms, but I was so pleased with my tidy out last weekend that I took some pictures!

The cage stands on top of my old desk, which is an old office desk, so BIG. The cage in the footwell underneath is a spare cage which fits perfectly in the gap!

Food tub and drawers containing bits and pieces also stand on the desk

Rest of the room with random things piled in the corner. Ideally I should have replaced the curtains before moving the rats in, but they're chewed now, so they might as well stay!

I'm hoping to do a full lino and paint job asap. given the carpet is being torn up by the corners, and they LOVE tearing wallpaper off

Had a bit of a re-jig in the rat room since the last pics

Air con unit for the summer, oil filled radiator for the winter and a carrier so the old people can have soft extras away from the gannets. The tables are really useful. They are from Ikea and can't be climbed as the legs are slippy so the wires are safe!

We've just had a revamp which included tiling the floor, painting the walls with washable paint and making a double SRS. All the rest is pretty much the same

View from the door of the free range area

Image

Ikea tables with shiny unclimbable legs for visitng rats cages

Image

Other side of the room where my cage is. Explorer still has my rats in but will be dismantled soon

I hadn't realised that my rat room pics weren't on here!

I'm lucky to have a purpose built room - the door is glass and opens outwards so that I can watch rats free ranging before I go in, and won't risk running any over with the door! There is a sink and storage space just outside the room, and inside, I have a corner by the door for my table with wall cupboards over it, and also a large high level shelf at the far end for storage.

The first set of pictures are from 8 years ago, when I had 3 duettos, and a brio, as well as various other temporary cages for litters and visitors which would go on the shelving units as and when required.

Skip forward 3 years, and I had replaced my oldest duetto with an SRS.

And my current room layout - 2 SRSs, an explorer, and 2 duettos

(The large sheets of cardboard between the cages makes for a more peaceful room!)
