hmm, i didn't know where to put mine. it's not large and wide, but it's a parrot cage so i'm settling here... it's supposed to hold 4 rats. Zazie and Zima live here. :)

i close the top when i'm not around, but they never go up there... i even laced rope between the bars just in case, but the highest they ever go up to is the basket. especially Zazie prefers to stay in the lower part of the cage. the cage is always open to my bed, which leads to a "playground" where a digging box and a structure which i call the "haunted rat attic" is... when i sleep they have to return to their cage. every month or 2 i try to change the layout to keep it interesting... though they seem to not like that, heheh... 8-)

they get fresh food scatter fed on the bottom, and there's space for them to roll around and wrestle. i give the dry in a food bowl, in a small hanging basket to the left, and inside the hanging wooden tube thingie. the grains that fall through the raft-like wooden platform fall into the small hammock/sack thingie and they can dig into it and have fun "foraging". there's also a hanging ball where i put dried dandelion leaves or fresh lettuce etc. there are lots of hammocks/bags but they have their favourite spots and mostly sleep in just one thing!

This is my Liberta F12 cage. It's an alright cage - though i'm on the hunt for something bigger and better!

Hi there!

Here's my current set up for my two young does.
They love the vertical set-up - perfect for climbing. I managed to get the cage for a steal at £25 from a warehouse wholesaler - came with free parrot toy which was suitable for the ratties too!

Originally for birds it did have several sliding opening doors which were quickly fixed with a few cable ties. I was worried that my girls would begin chewing the cable ties to their freedom but they haven't shown a interest *yet*! It is fairly robust (considering it is intended for birds, and collapsable which is a bonus! The tray at the bottom was a feature for the bird side... I have used duct tape to secure and ensure my girls don't escape. The bar spacing is great for youngsters - only 1.1cm :D

I'm still working out the best set up as I am a rat owner of only 2 weeks! but I'm rather pleased so far - I created a pouch from an old fluffy bed sock, a dog rope chew toy attached via cable ties to provide a climbing frame, platforms from cardboard and a rabbit litter tray, ropes plaited from old fleece and a few small rodent add ons from Zooplus (wooden ladders, and hide)

This is home to my three boys, it is a 'Small Pet Cage R5A 120'
I feel it may lack in height to a degree but I think that the floor space is particularly valuable as they are fairly lazy aging bucks - 18-24 months

A Coco cage from Little Pet Warehouse, bought to replace a 100cm Mamble.

A quick layout for my younger boys while I moved on to setting up a geriatric ward in the Mamble they'd just come out of.

Attempt at a climby set-up to keep two boys as active as possible as they get older and lazier.
Hammock I made myself and am very proud of :D
