I had started off doing this set up with it in mind that my older boy *seems* to be showing signs of HLD, I put the tube first which is very steep and he almost instantly jumped up onto it and proceeded to climb up! So I decided, to just go for it and see how he does. I'm so glad I did as I've never seen him so excited, he climbed about the cage exploring everything and really surprising me!

Its been less than a day and I'm already delighted with it, they've even started using the triangle swing thing  !

The boys layout for this week, shelf free! (Other than a couple of wooden ledges). I like to have one shelf to put their fresh food on but trialing them with metal bowls hanging on the side of the cage... if they make too much mess they're having a shelf back :)

Sorry about the quality, couldn't be bothered getting my camera out so took them on my phone.

I have recently done away with all but one shelf and I'm loving the flexibility when it comes to lay outs! Think the ratties are enjoying it too!!

Home to six girls 5 months - 30 months and 2 nadless lads approx 14 months..

Top half:

I scatter feed in the digging box so they have to work for it, but it's easier to change substrate in there when the husks build up, rather than the whole thing..

Working out the new drawers.. Clever boy!

My older fella really seemed to love the last set up so I decided to make it even more challenging.

I usually use a sideways wine rack as an easier option for climbing up that still requires them to either jump up/pull themselves up, but I made it more difficult this time by putting it under the litter tray so they have to climb onto something else to get higher. I've given the ropes more slack in this layout so they have to balance a lot more (which Chino is very good at), also things that would usually be fairly sturdy are no longer so like the cardboard tube which now rotates a bit when they walk on it  , the spiral rope is also looser so it spins a bit and I've added the swingy thing at the top.

Well, I've had my SRS a couple of weeks now and I kinda underestimated just how big it would be so I didn't really have much to fill it with.

I've made a few things myself but it still kinda seems empty. I do plan to make more though and there was a couple things in the wash etc when I took this photo. It's such a thrill when you see them use something you've made.

And one of the whole thing.

I'm not planning to always use news papers and towels I don't think.
Just trying to find which substrate is best for me. Plus I need to get my Srs lined so stuff will stop falling through the bars on the bottom.

Anyways, a little bare than everyone elses but it's getting there. :D

So, still not sorted out a proper substrate yet. I need my dad to help me sort out the problems with the tray etc and he's not so well at the moment so I don't wanna stress him. Hopefully they won't be on the towels and news paper too much longer.

Anyways, I've added some stuff. Still looks a little bare but it's getting there. Going to add a good digging box this week and may also make a soil one with some sprouting stuff etc in if I can get my hands on some soil.

I'm really chuffed they're using their litter trays. My family were so sceptical. xD
