*confused*. Ask me anything about genetics in lineolated parakeets and I would be ok

I don't really need to know just thought it would be nice to put a colour to him. I know it's difficult to tell from photos.

Thanks

In what way are you confused?
It is simplest just to call him mink (with a pale undercoat), but genetically he'll be a dark phase pearl.

I dont suppose you could get more photos could you, when i look at it one way i see agouti based, especially the warmth around the ear and eye, then i look elsewhere and i get the minky / dark phased pearl.

Perfect, definitely a mink based thing. Mink is quite an interesting colour, it can vary from quite a blue grey to a warm browney colour, often in the same rat, sometimes even at the same time (its notorious for being patchy). I suspect he does have pearl in him. Pearl is a funny gene, it can only act on mink based colours but can lurk around in the genes for a while. It essentially removes the colour from all but the tip of the hair, so you get a pale undercoat with a dark tips. Depending on how you select them this can be show quality pearl where each hair is mostly white with only the very tip of the hair mink, or dark phased pear where only a bit of the undercoat is white, so you can barely tell the difference between them and a mink.

Its up to you whether you want to call him dark phased pearl or mink, he’s probably close enough to either.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'll probably call him DPP. He is quite a shy ratty and Bobby, my other extremely shy mink hoodie seemed to have made pals.
