Please help baby rat worry

Post by Ratsndogsnfish » Fri Sep 03, 2021 8:13 pm

Hi, I’m after some urgent help. We have had two male baby rats for just over a week now. They were getting more confident and were sniffing our hands and taking treats.
I hoovered my daughter’s bedroom yesterday (where the rats live) and the rats ran around a bit and then hid. One of the rats has since been really frightened. He just stays really still if we go in the room and won’t take treats from us. I’m not sure he’s eaten anything since I hoovered. We’re so worried. What’s the best thing to do?

Some rats suffer from audiogenic epilepsy - could they have been having a fit when you hoovered?

I'm sure he'll eat when he's hungry, but for taming, it's best to get them out of the cage and into your clothing in a different room anyway, so do that, don't let him avoid contact with you.

They should adjust in time, but if it was a fit then best to either put them on meds or take them to another room next time you hoover.
