New litter

Post by Newratty1 » Wed Mar 27, 2019 9:02 pm

Hi folks I have a litter of 7.
About 5 weeks old now and full of life.
Only trouble is I'm having trouble sexing them.

Any advice welcome... thanks in advance

You need to sex them urgently, girls can become pregnant from as young as 5 weeks. Litters without background info should be separated at 4.5 weeks.

This article has pictures to help you, but if you still aren't sure then post pictures of each here. You should at least be able to divide the group into two sets which look the same as each other.

We also have plenty of other useful articles e.g. on providing the right diet for growing kittens, and on homing. Note that the boys should stay with you for at least another week, and ideally 3 more weeks.

I would also advise keeping the girls for 25 days after you've split the sexes just in case any are pregnant, don't take the risk of homing pregnant rats.
