Fancy Rats Forum will be closing down * now reprieved!

It is with deep regret that we announce this forum will close on 9th April 2021, and will not be viewable after that date.
The vast majority of discussion on rat care now takes place on facebook, and since the rise of that and other new social media platforms, the activity on forums has dwindled, and the levels we see here do not justify our hosting costs.
For many years though, this forum was the largest pet rat community in the UK, and whilst there are many historical threads and articles that are of interest, and indeed some that are still valid, others have been getting out of date and the latest developments in husbandry are not reflected here.
We are aware that in addition to the visible threads, members will also have personal messages that they may wish to save, and hope that the 3 weeks notice will enable them to take copies. If you are unable to retrieve log in details, please email [email protected]
Our plan is to preserve the most relevant articles and some selected content from key threads and post them on facebook. Our page is https://www.facebook.com/FancyRatsForum.
We recommend joining https://www.facebook.com/groups/RatCareUK for advice and general discussions because it is run by a team that includes several FR admin team members and therefore has a similar set of ethics.
We realise that not everyone wishes to use facebook and this will perhaps leave you feeling cut off, but unfortunately there simply aren't enough to make running the forum viable. An alternative forum is run by the National Fancy Rat Society, so we recommend joining them, membership is currently only £24 per year for an adult. https://www.nfrs.org/
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to FR over the past 20 years, both members and those who have been part of the admin team. We have undoubtedly had a major and positive effect on the lives of thousands of rats and their owners, had a lot of fun, and made many friends too.
