Oh wow, that's a very useful discovery! Don't worry too much if reducing the amount of macaroni doesn't work; you may find you need to reduce their dry mix slightly to compensate but it sounds like a relief all round.

If you've still got some in the cupboard, then I'd make it stronger - i.e. the right dosage, but only using about 25 - 30ml given that you only have 2 rats. Provide the standard water bottle(s) as well. If they haven't touched it by the next morning then remove it as it goes off.
